Alms For Shanti: Super Bol (Live)

By Anand Varghese | April 4, 2006

Alms For Shanti

Though lacking the terse electronic textures of the original, this live performance of “Super Bol” loses none of the track’s kinetic charm on its journey from studio to stage. The rhythms are relentless, and the extended bols and percussion duels are tight and impressive.

A far cry from the hair metal excesses of their Rock Machine days, vocalist Uday Benegal and guitarist Jayesh Gandhi play their parts to perfection, stepping back to let the immense percussive talents of drummer Kurt Peters, and percussionists Taufiq Qureshi and Vivek Rajgopalan wreak havoc on one of their most popular tracks. Except for a few prominent licks from the guitar and Naresh Kamath’s aggressive bass lines, almost all melodic elements have been stripped down or pushed deep into the mix, letting the various drums and voices layer into a rousing crescendo. All members traverse the complex syncopations with ease, making a muscular meld between traditional rhythms and the track’s arena rock aspirations.

Indus Creed blending IndianInstruments with RocknRoll was a revolution…but Alms for shanti(A4S) music style wont break ice with the phirangs …BTW how many CDs did A4S sell…
Indus Creed is a Rock Legend but A4S is a disappointment
