Colourblind: Colourblind

By Vishal Gandhi | July 28, 2006

ColourblindRemember Colourblind? The duo of Ram Sampath (vocals, keyboards, percussion and programming) and Siddharth Achrekar (guitars and bass) seemed to come out of nowhere and blew away the cynical and generally narrow-minded Indian rock fans with their sound and vision — and sadly after just one album, they were done.

The eponymously titled song begins with a keyboard intro that immediately draws you in and then come the drums and a guitar riff that makes you headbang and showcase your air guitar skills. Ram Sampath delivers lines like “We can make it to the final round / We can take a step or two / Just remember that the colour they see in your eyes / It aint whats inside of you” with immense power and conviction to give the crunch needed to ride along with that unmistakable riff.

Of particular note is the production and sound quality that surpassed anything being done by other Indian rock bands at that time. What is even more striking is the video featuring the sexy Laila Rouass that got even non-rockers talking. See for yourself.

ColourBlind were few of the Indian Rock acts of International standard…though now vanished into oblivion….to me this album is only second to Indus Creeds self titled album.

I wish i could hear them again! Theyshould come back and kick off all these bullshits like indian idol and this kinds of fun stuff. Rock music is serious man! Indian Rock is so unwealthy and very unfortunate. The bands like ColourBlind, Indeescreed are very essential for Indian music. I sometimes wonder that the music style of Creed was very much influenced by Colourblind. That means todays alternative rock is very connected to Colourblind. ColourBlind, IndusCreed, you guys have to start again! Wish ya best of luck.
