This is the New Split!

By Arun Kale | October 30, 2006

Welcome to the all new Split magazine. You’ll notice that Split-Magazine.com now features a slick new design — but that’s not all that’s new.

Starting today, we’ve decided to extend the scope of our content to beyond just Indian rock music. As you might already have noticed, the current issue of the magazine features Soundgarden on the ‘cover’, along with a review of Tool’s latest album ‘10,000 Days’. ‘Indian Rock: Evolution’ talks about how a lot of Indian rock bands are stuck in a time capsule, and explores some of the reasons for why bands are afraid to experiment with new sounds. There’s lots more where that came from — please sign up for the Split newsletter on our home page to receive e-mail updates whenever we publish new articles.

Please note that ‘extending the scope of our content’ does in no way imply that we’ve decided to ignore Indian rock music — our content will still have a special focus on Indian rock music. In fact, if anything, you’ll be seeing a lot more Indian rock-related content on Split.

Today also marks the launch of Split Radio — an Internet radio station for independent music in India. Launched alongside the all new Split Magazine, Split Radio plays music from all your favourite bands, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Our playlist currently includes tracks by Pentagram (including tracks from their rare debut album ‘We Are Not Listening’), Skinny Alley, Thermal and a Quarter, Galeej Gurus, Clockwork Orange, Bhayanak Maut, Medicis, Bhumi, Envision and Kinky Ski Munky to name a few. We appreciate that a lot of you may have varied tastes in music — which is why the Split Radio player has an in-built fast forward feature, so that that you can listen to what you like, and skip what you don’t.

We’re constantly updating our playlists with new songs, so keep listening to Split Radio for the best that Indian rock has to offer.

We’d love to know what you think of the new Split — both, the magazine and radio. Please let us know at edit@split-magazine.com — alternatively, you could just post your comments using the form below. We’re also on the lookout for correspondents from cities all over India, so if you’re interested, you can e-mail us at edit@split-magazine.com for details.

Well, that’s that for now. Take a look around the new Web site, see what you like. We hope you’ll keep returning to the site for new articles. And yeah, don’t forget to tune in to Split Radio.
