Acrid Semblance: Quest For Spirituality
What’s better than a hit song by India’s premier melodic death metal band? Yes, that’s right — a more refined and well produced re-recording of it. “Quest For Spirituality” took the Indian metal scene by storm when it was initially released in 2003 as part of the band’s ‘Soul Corrosion’ EP, and Acrid Semblance have landed a blow right on the money with an absolutely awesome rendering of an already brilliant song.
I’ll be honest, I’m real picky when it comes to my metal, but pretty much every little thing in this song is top notch. Right from the intro, with some nice guitar work, the song progression is fabulous, as the song almost seems to ease into every segment whilst keeping that perfect melodic death theme intact. The vocals are spot-on, and comparisons to Alexi Laiho would not be out of place. The guitar patches are somewhat unique for the genre, but sound great all the same. There’s a couple of blistering guitar solos in the midst as well, making this quite the complete package. The production is fabulous, the sound is refined just the right amount, and everything seems to fall into place perfectly.
All in all, “Quest For Spirituality” is a song that was great to start with, and has been made better still, and is representative of all that is good at this moment in time in the Indian Metal scene. I’m rather certain that not too many would disagree with me when I say we could do with a lot more bands like Acrid Semblance.
