The EE Teez: Singin’ in the Rain
The EE Teez are a promising young band from the confines of West Bengal. Self-described as “fresh, frizzy, fun”, the band certainly exemplifies these qualities on their original track, the laid-back “Singin’ in the Rain”.
Lilting piano and gentle guitars introduce us to this relaxed tune. Thunder rumbles in the background, and as the sound of rain filters in, a poignant visual of a happy-go-lucky soul traipsing in the deserted rain-soaked streets flits into the listener’s mind. The vocal inflections in the gorgeous chorus sound unassumingly natural, as does the occasional, lighthearted whistling. This naturalness is possibly the best thing about the band’s sound; it is the unpretentious honesty that they seem to infuse into lyric, note and melody that really wins you over. The band’s cyber personality, too, proves to be quirky, mellow and unfettered by the feeling of self-importance that an unfortunate number of nascent bands fall prey to.
The band consists of, according to themselves, Tutankhamen and Sunny on guitars, Gogol on bass, and Piu on drums, with all members of the quartet providing vocal talents. One tiff in their music, however, is related to the accent — they seem not to have quite gotten the hang of affecting the Yankee tongue fully just yet; there is a murkiness in the verses which makes the lyrics somewhat indiscernible.
Apart from that, however, the EE Teez, with their easygoing and down-to-earth sound, prove to be a refreshing band that we hope to hear more from soon.
